BC Wood Properties is giving back to the community in which it serves by donating over $350,000 worth of grocery store freezers, shelves and industrial sized refrigerators to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to help the fight against hunger.
America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia’s (ASHCG) mission is to utilize food and education to improve lives and create a hunger-free community. Its purpose is to feed the hungry by distributing nutritious food to nonprofit agencies and at risk elderly and youth, to assist in disaster relief, and work towards long-term solutions to hunger and poverty. ASHCG has been operating in Savannah, Ga. since 1981 when local grocers and restaurants wanted to eliminate the waste of surplus food. ASHCG is a private, non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization under the national umbrella of Feeding America.
According to Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director of ASHCG, “BC Wood Properties’ equipment donation will make such a difference to the people in our community that are at-risk for hunger. More than 64% of the children living in Chatham County qualify for free or reduced meals at school, and for many of these children the evening meal we provide is the only dinner they will receive at night.”
